The course will:
- build understanding of how trauma impacts a child’s behaviour, emotional regulation and sense of safety within the school environment;
- introduce relational strategies that prioritise connection, attunement and co-regulation to reduce escalation and support recovery;
- explore practical ways to adapt routines, expectations and language to create predictable, nurturing classrooms where pupils feel secure; and
- equip staff with reflective tools to identify common triggers, respond with compassion and develop behaviour approaches rooted in trust and emotional safety.
This course supports staff to understand how trauma shapes a child’s emotional world, behaviour and capacity for regulation. Grounded in a relational approach, the session explores how predictable, attuned and compassionate adult responses can provide the safety pupils need to thrive. Through practical strategies, case examples and reflective discussion, participants learn how to spot underlying needs, reduce triggers, and build nurturing routines that prevent escalation. The focus is on creating environments where connection comes before correction, allowing children to feel secure, understood and ready to engage in learning.
