Course aims
- Introduces proactive, relational strategies to recognise early signs of dysregulation and prevent behaviours from escalating.
- Builds staff confidence in using calm, relational communication techniques to defuse challenging situations safely.
- Explores common primary age triggers and provides evidence-informed approaches to reduce escalation and maintain a positive classroom climate.
- Includes scenario-based practice to help staff apply de-escalation skills consistently and restore calm quickly and effectively.
This session explores how primary staff can use calm, relational approaches to recognise early signs of dysregulation and respond in ways that maintain connection, safety and trust. Through practical strategies, real life scenarios and reflective discussion, participants learn how to tune into pupils’ emotional needs, use language that soothes rather than escalates, and create supportive environments where challenging moments become opportunities to strengthen relationships.
The focus is not just on preventing crisis, but on building a culture where children feel understood, valued and secure enough to regulate with adult support.
Please note bespoke sessions can be booked for your school by emailing LPDS@Lancashire.gov.uk
