Whether you are stepping into the role of Assessment Lead for the first time or seeking a refresher on your responsibilities, this comprehensive course provides the clarity and confidence you need to lead assessment effectively across your school.
Throughout the training, you will explore the full range of statutory assessment requirements from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to the end of Key Stage 2, gaining a clear understanding of what is expected at each stage. As statutory assessment in Key Stage 1 has now been removed, we will also take time to reflect on what assessment could look like in KS1, and how schools can develop meaningful approaches that meet their own curriculum and pupils’ needs.
The course will guide you through the wider role of the Assessment Lead, considering the organisation, systems, and routines needed to implement the role effectively. We will discuss how to involve key stakeholders—teachers, senior leaders, governors,—in building a shared, coherent approach to assessment across the school.
A further focus will be on the impact of high quality formative assessment on teaching and learning. You will explore how effective day to day assessment supports pupil progress, and how you, as Assessment Lead, can monitor and evaluate current practice within your school with a view to identifying next steps.
By the end of the training, you will have a clear understanding of your responsibilities, a stronger grasp of statutory and non statutory assessment expectations, and a set of practical strategies to help you lead assessment with clarity, purpose, and impact.
Participants will be provided with an example timetable, for assessment, for the year and will have the opportunity to create their own timetable and action plan for the year ahead.
Overviews of current assessment tools will be shown. There will also be the opportunity to discuss with colleagues and gain a greater understanding of formative and summative assessment!
