Year 6 Effective Preparation for end of KS2 SATS – understanding the procedures

1. To help Year 6 teachers develop their understanding of the end of Key Stage 2 statutory assessment.
2. To develop an understanding of teacher assessment arrangements for the end of Key Stage 2.
3. To consider effective strategies to prepare children for the end of KS2 writing assessment
4. To receive guidance on the administration and management of end of Key Stage 2 assessment including the tests and arrangements.
5. To take part in agreement trailing using examples from STA standardisation exercises.

This fully updated, half day course is designed for all Year 6 teachers and will provide comprehensive guidance on the management and administration of the end of Key Stage 2 assessment arrangements for 2026/2027.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of statutory requirements for administering the KS2 assessments and tests while exploring effective approaches to supporting pupils in meeting age related expectations in writing, using the latest STA training and standardisation materials. The course will develop confidence in making accurate teacher assessment judgements aligned with national expectations and will consider how assessment information can be used to inform teaching, learning, and targeted interventions. Attendees will also take part in practical writing moderation activities using official STA exemplification materials.

Participants are asked to bring writing for two children who are on track to achieve end of year expected standard.

This course is ideal for Year 6 teachers but will also be highly valuable for Assessment Coordinators and Headteachers seeking a detailed overview of KS2 assessment procedures and expectations.
