Activities
Many of our libraries have regular events for children and young people.
For pre-school children there are:
- Baby Bounce and Rhyme for babies up to around 18 months of age
- Toddler Rhyme Time sing-along songs and rhymes and for pre-school children from around 18 months upwards
- Storytime for all pre-school children and their parents or carers.
For older children there are clubs like coding and Lego.
Lancashire Reading Trail
The Lancashire reading trail turns reading into challenge to follow a map through an enchanted Lancashire and collect special cards and characters along the way. It has been created to encourage children (up to the age of 12) to read more.
Lancashire Reading Journey
The Lancashire Reading Journey takes place during the summer holidays and children can sign up for free at their local library to take part, with lots of fun tasks to choose from to enjoy over the summer.
Homework
Libraries are a great place to do your homework with free access to books and online resources that will practically do your homework for you!
You can access a range of subscription information sites we've paid for so you don't have to or use our list of websites recommended by Lancashire teachers to fit in with the National Curriculum.
Homework clubs also get free print-outs in the library for homework related material.
Lancashire Book of the Year
Each year students in high schools around the county vote for the best book for 12-14-year-olds.
Volunteering
If you are aged 12 - 24 you can volunteer to be a Reading Hack.
You'll share your skills and help younger children (aged 4 - 11) improve their reading at one of our libraries. You'll be listening to children talk about the books they've read, recommending new titles and supporting them to complete the Lancashire reading trail.
