Partners

LERN is managed by a core partnership comprising:

Lancashire Wildlife Trust - the only conservation charity working to protect wildlife in town, countryside and in the rivers and seas throughout the Lancashire, Greater Manchester and North Merseyside region.

Lancashire County Council - A place where people can: Feel safe, lead healthy lives, get help if they need it, learn and develop, work and prosper, travel easily and safely and enjoy a high quality environment.

Natural England - The government's advisor on the natural environment, providing practical advice, grounded in science, on how best to safeguard England's natural wealth for the benefit of everyone.

The Environment Agency - Its principal aims are to protect and improve the environment, and to promote sustainable development. It plays a central role in delivering the environmental priorities of central government and the Welsh Assembly Government through its functions and roles.

GeoLancashire - (formerly known as the 'Lancashire RIGs Group') has three strands to its work:

  • Identifying, surveying and recording Local Geodiversity Sites (LGSs);

  • Selection, designation, protection and conservation of these sites;

  • Promoting public awareness, understanding and appreciation of Lancashire’s geology and landscapes.

Partnership agreement

Most of the records relating to Lancashire's biodiversity are generated by the individual naturalists active within the County, many of whom belong to specialist groups or local societies. Landscape and geodiversity groups also make a significant contribution.

The LERN core partners want to recognize the contribution such organizations make to the Network and a Partnership Agreement  has been developed to facilitate this.

This document identifies ten core objectives which should improve the quality and accessibility of environmental information for the benefit of everyone involved.

Any agreements for the sharing of records are made separately from the Partnership Agreement.

Voluntary groups signing the Partnership Agreement will become affiliated to LERN and will be able to promote their presence and activities through the LERN website.

If you would like to discuss the Partnership Agreement please contact LERN at lern@lancashire.gov.uk or phone 01772 537695.
