Step Outside EYFS Quality Award

This fast track quality improvement outdoor learning module focuses on raising standards and securing outstanding practice in the early years in Lancashire schools.

Step Outside involves whole team reflection on provision and practice. It has been proven that through this systematic approach of self-evaluation, the principles of the EYFS have become embedded in practice, improving outcomes for children.

This programme is for schools wanting to:

  • Devise and implement an action plan to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the outdoors
  • Raise outcomes for all children with particular reference to outdoor provision
  • Ensure children consistently demonstrate the characteristics of learning in the outdoors

The programme includes:

  • A professional development training session for the class teacher and TAs to consider key messages for effective practice and cross reference these to existing provision
  • An improvement planning session to involve guidance on effective resourcing and actions to evidence outstanding provision
  • Onsite mentor visit to support improvement
  • Sharing good practice session

The programme runs over two terms and starts every February and July.
