Step into Quality Key Stage One

This quality improvement programme has been very successful in building on the ethos and practices of the EYFS, focusing on the developmental needs of children in Year One and Year Two and supporting their independent learning opportunities and learning behaviours. There has never been a better time to reconsider developmentally appropriate learning environments and teaching in Year One and Two. Evidence of clear impact has been seen in schools who have already undertaken this programme, including some Year Two classes. ‘Step into Quality’ involves whole team reflection on provision and practice, through a systematic approach of selfevaluation.

The programme considers conditions for learning through a number of ‘steps’. These include:

  • Transitions
  • Relationship with parents
  • Routines
  • Indoor learning environment
  • Outdoor learning environment
  • Learning and development
  • Role of the adult
  • Leadership and management

Cost:

£3000, payable over two financial years.

The programme runs for 12 months.

The programme includes:

  • an introductory session for all Year One/Year Two teachers and the Headteacher
  • 3 full days professional development training sessions for all Year One/Year Two teachers and TAs
  • a sharing good practice session
  • up to six mentor visits on site by a Consultant
