Lancashire Quality Award – Opportunities and Experiences: The Indoor Learning Environment

This module looks in depth at maximising the potential within indoor learning experiences to ensure high quality opportunities and experiences are offered to children in order to support their leaning and development within the EYFS.

Consideration is given to a set of module standards and how to further improve and develop practice in these areas:

  1. The environment is welcoming and stimulating and takes account of the needs of all children
  2. The environment encourages children’s independence and choice
  3. Children are given plenty of time to develop their play, bring their play to a close, and revisit experiences
  4. There is a variety and balance in the experiences offered
  5. High priority is given to encouraging children to communicate and use language effectively
  6. The whole range of physical development is promoted well
  7. Children’s personal, social and emotional development is promoted well throughout the indoor environment
  8. Children have a wide range of interesting opportunities to develop early reading and writing skills
  9. Children have quality opportunities to develop their mathematical language and understanding through a varied range of experiences largely based on real life situations
  10. Children are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and develop enquiring minds
  11. A wide range of resources and experiences promote creativity and children’s individual expression is valued and celebrated
  12. There is a good understanding of the adult role within the learning environment
  13. There are effective systems for observation, assessment and planning that meet the needs and interests of all children
  14. The planning and organisation are flexible enough to respond to children’s ideas and things which happen spontaneously
