Champion for armed forces and veterans

Chairman Keith Iddon on Armed Forces DayDescription

To assist the Leader and appropriate Cabinet Members to work with the organisations that support ex-servicemen and women to work even more closely together and to ensure that veterans and their families get the support they deserve.

Activities

I was lucky enough to host a civic reception for the armed forces and veteran community on 19th June, where those who were invited were joined by a number of county councillors and the chairman of the county council. I was honoured to welcome WWII veteran Ken Benbow, who was in the RAF during the war, now aged 98; he was one of many veterans I was proud to welcome to the day.

As well as having numerous speakers on the day, attendees were invited to observe a minutes silent outside after we raised the armed forces flag outside of county hall.
