Message from Chief Executive, Mark Wynn about the government's decision on LGR
Hello everyone,
Government has now made its decision on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Lancashire. Please take a moment to read:
These have been issued to colleagues across all 15 councils and reflects our shared commitment to working together as we move into the next phase.
I understand that this stage may feel uncertain. While a decision has now been confirmed, there are still important details to work through. We are now moving into the next phase of planning and implementation.
This phase includes continuing work to understand how each organisation will be structured under the new arrangements, including initial work on finance and staffing. This is planning work only, based on current information and assumptions and no decisions have been made at this stage.
The county council is in a unique position in this scenario, as it currently provides services across all areas covered by the proposed new unitary councils.
As we move forward, work will be carried out to allocate staff to the appropriate organisations. We want to reassure you that all staff, across all councils, will be treated fairly and consistently throughout this process.
Briefing sessions
Three staff briefing sessions are planned for next week. These will be an important opportunity to hear more about what this means for us, ask questions and talk through what happens next.
I would encourage you to attend one of the sessions if you can. The session at County Hall will be a hybrid event, so you will be able to join online and ask questions during the session. A recording will also be shared afterwards.
Book your place on a staff briefing session.
Our people managers play a key role in making sure all colleagues are informed and supported. All managers must make time to share this important information with their teams, including anyone who may not regularly access email or the intranet.
Managers resources are available to support you with this. These include guidance and materials to help with team briefings.
We will continue to work closely with colleagues across Lancashire and will share further updates as more information becomes available.
If you have any questions, please contact the team at LGRQuestions@lancashire.gov.uk.
Take care,
Mark
