Receiving fostering allowance
When you have received a positive recommendation at the fostering panel we will ask for the following details:
- Name of account holder
- Bank account number
- Sort code
- Branch address
This will be the account that the fostering allowance will be paid into in respect of any children you care for.
If you change your bank account you will need to inform us of this in good time to ensure that no payments are made to the incorrect account.
Key points to note:
- The fostering allowance payments are issued by the finance department. They work on the most up to date information that they have available and are made fortnightly. If a child moves on from your care it will be your responsibility to check if you have received more fostering allowance than you should have.
- For example: if the child has moved out on 01/12/2020 but you continued receiving the fostering allowance until 07/12/2020 you have received six days of fostering allowance when no child was present in your home.
- The finance department will approach you for re-payment of any overpaid fostering allowance.
HMRC and Tax as a foster carer
Information about fostering and paying tax is available on GOV.UK. This is the government website and the best place to find out what your entitlements are.
There is a HMRC course which provides a good overview for foster carers that may be of help to you.
