Explore RE in your area
The RE Hubs project supports teachers and practitioners of RE, RVE, and Religion & Worldviews across the UK. Its mission is to connect those who create high‑quality resources with those who need them, providing a neutral platform that brings stakeholders together and strengthens knowledge across the RE community.
My Voice Guardian Programme - Ike Alterman BEM
The My Voice Guardian Programme preserves the stories and experiences of Holocaust survivors. My Voice’s mission has been to record the actual words spoken by Survivors and Holocaust Refugees from Greater Manchester, the North West and London. From these they have produced individual books, written in the first person, voicing their experiences – before, during and after the war years.
At 96 years old, Ike survived four Nazi concentration and death camps — Auschwitz-Birkenau among them — as well as a brutal death march. His entire family perished at the hands of the Nazis. Ike came to the UK as one of the Windermere Children and later settled in Manchester.
His commitment to sharing his story and conveying powerful messages of hope, tolerance, kindness, and resilience left a lasting impact on the audience.
