The Red Rose Maths curriculum is a comprehensive tool for teaching and learning maths across nursery settings, and for any child working at this level. It covers all aspects of mathematical learning in number, shape, space, measures, pattern and sorting for children aged 12 months to 4 years. The learning is progressive across half terms within each of the age bands; 12 – 24 months, 2 – 3 years and 3 – 4 years. Provided for each aspect of learning is a practitioner guide which contains:

• Focused learning intention
• Adult led guided modelling which suggests effective experiences and adult prompts for children to be exposed to and embed the new learning
• Language development, including sentence stems, for children to hear and use when they are ready
• Independent opportunities within provision for children to further practice and apply the new learning and experience it in different contexts.
