Lancashire's Healthy Heroes and their sidekick Freddie the Frog are back.

The Healthy Heroes Early Years Toolkit has been updated and designed for use in your Early Years and Reception class setting for children aged 2-5 years old (adaptations can be made for those under the age of 2).

The resource has been updated, adapted, and mapped to the physical development key focus area of the EYFS Curriculum, to ensure good health messages for play, nutrition, and oral health are promoted throughout the setting for children.

By using the various resources available (session plans, activity ideas, recipes, and challenges to complete), you will be able to raise awareness and share messages of leading a healthier lifestyle through play with children aged 2-5 years old in your setting. (Adaptations can be made for those under the age of 2).

The challenge cards are also available for use with families, to share information related to leading a healthier lifestyle and encourage them to participate at home.

The toolkit features a printed A4 folder containing:

• 18 Challenge cards
• 50 session plans (all mapped to EYFS Curriculum, SMSC, British Values and Sticky Learning Theory)
• 25 recipe ideas which are reflective of culturally, budget and dietary needs
• Book list developed in partnership with LCC Library Service
• Reflection tools

Plus 100 children's packs containing:

• Freddie Frog chart and stickers 
• Healthy Heroes certificates 
• Parent leaflets 

• and 1 Freddie the Frog hand puppet

The Healthy Heroes Early Years Toolkit is offered as a flexible resource which is designed to support staff in Early Years settings. Its primary purpose is to provide time-saving materials that help meet the planning and learning requirements of the personal, social and emotional development areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework.

Participating Early Years settings that subscribe to the Healthy Heroes Early Years Toolkit will receive a refreshed supply of 100 children's packs every 2 years in exchange for a biennial fee of £45 (comprising a £20 subscription fee and a £25 administrative invoicing fee). You will be notified via email prior to the auto-renewal of your subscription. Please note that childminders are exempt from the biennial fee.
