The Role of the Play Worker

Course content

This is an excellent opportunity to upskill the whole team (without the hassle of covering staff whilst they are off the premises) and to come together as a team and learn something new and fresh and for further discussion and explore a topic more.

In these three virtual recorded sessions you will discover or rediscover the ‘Playwork Principles’ and unpick what each of them mean for you and your setting. We will look at the role of a Playworker, dig a little deeper into what we mean by ‘play’, and how and why children play.

Together we will consider how you, as playworkers, can build those all-important relationships with children in a play-based environment. We will also explore ways in which you can evaluate your provision to plan and facilitate quality play sessions for the children in your club.

The sessions have been designed so you can work through them with your team in one place or individually, either is fine! As the sessions are pre-recorded you will be able to pause to complete the activities set (it’s important you do these so the section that comes after makes sense) and discuss topics.

Each session will be available to you for 2 weeks. You can organise when your team will do it – all together at the same time or individually.

Each pre-recorded session will take approximately an hour to work through. There is also an optional live Q and A to discuss anything with one of the course tutors.
