Physical Development for 3-5's

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for practitioners working in both the PVI and maintained school sector and childminders.

This session is recommended for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Physical development.

Course content

Physical development is a prime area because it underpins learning across all areas of the curriculum and is fundamental to children developing healthy bodies and minds. The EYFS Statutory Guidance recommends children should be having 3 hours of physical activity every day. The session will explore how to implement this in practice with high quality experiences supporting children aged 3-5 with their moving, handling, health and self-care.

With a balance of both theory and practical activities we will consider what curriculum we need to provide for our children in terms of physical development and how to ensure a broad range of gross and fine motor physical experiences are catered for in your indoor and outdoor learning environments.

Healthy lifestyles should be promoted with children and parents as obesity is rising. The rising level of childhood obesity has physical, mental/emotional and social consequences in the short and long term. We will explore the latest research and guidance materials available to support you and how these can be reflected in practice.

All participants attending the face-to-face training will receive a course booklet to take away and additional information to support the development of physical development in the setting.
