Treasure baskets

Who is this course for?

Practitioners working with babies and toddlers.

This session is recommended for those undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Birth to Three.

Course content

A Treasure Basket is a collection of interesting natural and reclaimed resources and household objects put together to give a baby a safe yet intriguing range of objects to explore. Providing this experience for babies encourages them to use all their senses, which helps them to make connections in their brains and supports all areas of their development. By experiencing the smell, taste and feel of objects babies begin to find out how things work, what they like and how to make choices.

A wide range of treasure baskets will be explored throughout this session.

Heuristic Play is rooted in young children's natural curiosity. As babies develop they move beyond being content to simply feel and ponder objects, to wanting to find out what can be done with them. Toddlers have an urge to handle things and heuristic play offers these opportunities in abundance.

This course will ignite practitioners curiosity into how babies and young children learn.
