Look who's talking – developing communication and language from birth to three years old

Who is this course for?

This session will support all practitioners to develop knowledge and understanding of speech, language and communication in the early years.

This session is essential for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Birth to Three and Communication and Language.

Course content

Speech, language and communication are central life skills. They are linked to learning, attainment, behaviour, social and emotional development as well as mental well-being, so it is essential that everyone working with children understand the importance of their role in supporting and developing these crucial skills. During the session we will unpick what is meant by speech, language and communication and the differences between them. Practitioners will have the opportunity to analyse their current confidence levels in terms of understanding, identifying and supporting speech, language and communication development as well as the roles and responsibilities this entails. We will also explore strategies to promote speech, language and communication with all children and for those identified with additional needs.
