Every child a talker – an introduction to the ECAT programme - Virtual

Who is this course for?

This session will support all practitioners to raise their skills and knowledge in early language.

This session is recommended for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award Communication and Language.

Course content

Children need adults to nurture and support their communication and language development, it doesn't happen by accident! The more all practitioners know and understand about language and how it develops the better position they are in to help. ECAT is designed to help create a developmentally appropriate, supportive and stimulating environment in which children can enjoy experimenting with and learning language. ECAT will encourage language development right from the outset, extending children's vocabulary and helping them build sentences so that before they start school, children are confident and skilled communicators.

This session provides a walkthrough of the ECAT materials enabling you to then implement the programme in your setting. It is aimed that by the end of the programme, all staff would be well tuned into the children's developmental stages. They would be confident in extending children's speech and language, ensuring that speaking and listening opportunities are maximised through all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
