Developing effective systems for Supervision and Appraisal

Who is this course for?

This course is for managers and senior staff in PVI nurseries and out of school clubs who are involved in the supervision of colleagues.

Course content

The aim of this course is to look at strategies to support staff effectiveness and professional development, alongside the development of a supervision and appraisal process that really benefits your setting and your staff team. A course booklet will be provided with example formats and templates that could be adapted for use within your setting.

We will explore how good quality supervision and appraisal helps:

  • you to get your team on board to support the vision of your setting
  • your team to understand their role in reaching the vision
  • to build a strong team
  • to support staff well-being, development and retention

"Providers must put appropriate arrangements in place for the supervision of staff who have contact with children and families. Effective supervision provides support, coaching and training for the practitioner and promotes the interests of children. Supervision should foster a culture of mutual support, teamwork and continuous improvement, which encourages the confidential discussion of sensitive issues." (Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, 2021).
