Consult, listen and plan

**NEW FOR 23/24**

Who is this course for?

This session is for experienced practitioners and particularly for those settings who are working with children who are three years or over.

Course content

This course, previously entitled 'Using Floorbooks to Consult, Listen and Plan'*, explores some innovative and exciting strategies for consulting children on a daily basis. Practitioners will consider a range of ways in which to provoke children's thinking and encourage communication in various forms, enabling them to hear children's many voices indoors and out. We know that if what we are planning is of direct interest to the children in our setting, they will be more engaged and their learning will be supported effectively.

This session looks at a completely different way of planning through consultation with children. Talking tubs, mind maps and floor books will be considered as a way of recording children's voices and evidencing planning. The course aims to:

  • consider ways of challenging and extending young children’s thinking
  • explore a variety of techniques for consulting young children
  • examine how consultation techniques can be used to inform assessment and planning

All participants will receive a course booklet to take away with additional information and further reading to enable practitioners to facilitate and support children's thinking.

*'Using Floorbooks to Consult, Listen and Plan' is still available as an instant access webinar, click here for details.
