Inspiring mark making through play
(formerly Developing early writing)
Who is this course for?
Practitioners who work with children from two years old who want to encourage their children to engage in mark making as part of their play.
This session is essential for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Early Writing.
Course content
This session looks at strategies and techniques to support all children to develop early writing skills looking at developmental expectations for writing. It draws links from drawing into writing and develops a shared understanding of writing as a means of communication and giving children a reason to write.
Progression in writing is explored to further develop a shared understanding about what we can expect children to be doing at different stages of writing. There will also be practical ideas linking talking and writing and a closer look at opportunities and inspiration in the continuous provision to make writing more fun and relevant to children.
There will be opportunities for practitioners to reflect on their current practice.
