Lancashire County Council's Ecologists inform the County Council's strategies, policies, decisions, schemes and maintenance regimes to enable compliance with relevant legislation, national policies and initiatives relating to ecology, biodiversity and wildlife protection.

This includes, for example:

  • Providing ecological advice to planning officers
  • Advising on ecological impact assessments, design and mitigation requirements for Lancashire County Council infrastructure projects
  • Input to Lancashire's Biological Heritage Site system. These are non-statutory county wildlife sites designated by the Biological Heritage Site Partnership (See Lancashire Ecological Records Network website)
