Looking out for Lancashire

Coinciding with the publication of the UK government's 'Living with Covid' strategy, a new communications concept has been agreed for Lancashire that partners of the Lancashire Resilience Forum can use to communicate the national messages.

The 'Looking out for Lancashire' concept has simple messaging, branding, and is something that all partners can support. It is a departure from the 'Let's Do it For Lancashire' and 'Let's Keep Lancashire Safe' while maintaining the spirit of those recognisable campaigns.

'Looking out for Lancashire' encapsulates the theme of unity and will allow flexibility with future messaging.

Communications approach

As we move into this next phase of the pandemic, with legal restrictions making way for non-mandatory guidance, we want to promote a kinder, softer message, one that encourages people to take precautions but does not demonise those who choose not to, for whatever reason. We will continue to push the national messages, softly encouraging good Covid-19 behaviours in a manner that encourages people to look out for Lancashire as the county makes its recovery.

We recognise that the people of Lancashire have dealt with a great deal of hardship and pain over the past two years, and we feel it is time to encourage our communities to come together as we heal and begin to return to some form of normality, but one where Covid-19 is still very much in the picture.

Key messages

As has been agreed by the WIC throughout the pandemic, the LRF will continue to stick to national messaging, but with a local slant. The 'Living with Covid' messages are:

  • Get vaccinated: it offers the best protection against Covid-19, reduces the risk of spreading it to others and means you’re less likely to get seriously ill.
  • Try to stay at home if unwell
  • Take a test if displaying Covid symptoms: avoid contact with others. If you test positive, stay at home
  • Let fresh air in if meeting indoors, or meeting outside: letting fresh air in if meeting indoors or meeting outside to disperse Covid-19 particles and reduce the risk of spreading the virus
  • Wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces: especially where you come into contact with people you do not usually meet and when rates of transmission are high
  • Wash hands: regularly for 20 seconds or more to limit the spread of Covid-19
