Lancashire Short Breaks Service Offer Redesign

Young people's questionnaire

As part of redesigning the Short Breaks Offer, Lancashire County Council would like to know the views and thoughts of children and young people under the age of 18 who have used a Short Break Service. A short questionnaire has been created which should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete. The questions ask what they like about short breaks, why, what could make them better and what short breaks they would like in future.

Please encourage and help if needed, any child or young person to complete this who have used a short break service by 31 December 2019. For a paper copy email find@lancashire.gov.uk or phone: 01772 532509.

Workshops

Lancashire County Council and Lancashire's Parent Carer Forum invite parent/carers, short break providers and partners to attend two workshops as part of the redesign of Lancashire's Short Break Service offer.

This is an exciting opportunity to work together to redesign an offer that better meets the needs of children, young people and families.

Each workshop will have a different focus:

  1. Discuss the information gathered so far as part of the review and start to consider options and priorities for the offer.
  2. Bring together the preferred options and priorities from the first workshop into a model for a redesigned short break offer.

The workshops will work within the principles and values set out in the Lancashire SEND Partnership Ways of Working (PDF 499 KB).

The first workshop has taken place and the second will be held on Wednesday 11 December 2019 10am to 2pm.

The venue is the Gujarat Hindu Society and Community Centre, South Meadow Lane, Preston PR1 8JN.

Hot drinks will be provided however please bring your lunch and any other food you may need on the day. There is parking at the Gujurat Centre, please park within the yellow marked bays.

Parent/carers can book onto the workshops via Eventbrite. Participating parents will get a free Max Card.

Providers and partners can book onto the workshops by email: find@lancashire.gov.uk or phone: 01772 532509.

If you have any questions please contact find@lancashire.gov.uk or telephone 01772 532509.

Update on Lancashire Break Time 2019

The consultation responses on our proposal to cease Lancashire Break Time indicated that we need to look at the whole Short Breaks Offer provided by Lancashire County Council alongside Lancashire Break Time. As a result, on 8 August 2019 Cabinet agreed to the review and redesign the whole Short Breaks Offer, in partnership with parents, carers, young people and providers.

Thanks to the parent/carers, children, young people and short breaks providers who have shared their views on the Short Breaks Offer so far.

Lancashire Break Time will continue in its current form until the review and redesign of the Short Breaks Offer is completed.

The feedback will be used to inform a report setting out the proposal for the future delivery of short breaks which will be presented to Cabinet in March 2020.

Short breaks give the primary carer of a child a break from their caring role whilst the child or young person attends a fun group activity. The break is for a period of at least two hours.

The criteria to qualify for Lancashire Break Time short breaks is to be the unpaid primary carer of a child or young person with special educational needs and/or disabilities, aged 4 to 18 years and living in Lancashire (excluding Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool). The child or young person will find it difficult to access universal services due to sensory issues, learning difficulties, physical mobility problems, etc. They will not be in receipt of an assessed social care outreach package; those with a higher level of need will receive services through their package of care.

Lancashire Break Time activities take place across Lancashire during term time and school holidays and will continue in their current form until the review of how short breaks are to be delivered is completed.

There is a minimum charge of £1 per hour for the activities.

If you think you meet the criteria and would like a short break, you should contact the provider direct for more information and to reserve a place.
