Update from Lancashire's Chief Executives - May 2026

Hello everyone,

Please take a moment to read the Lancashire chief executives’ letter to all staff, shared below.

It has been sent to colleagues across all 15 councils and reflects our shared commitment to working together as we prepare for the next phase of Local Government Reorganisation. Please also share it with anyone who may not regularly use our digital channels.

I know this process may bring uncertainty, so I want to reassure you that there has been no change to the overall position since my last update. We are still expecting Government to confirm the preferred option for Lancashire in early July, subject to formal confirmation.

In the meantime, we have moved into the next stage of planning. This includes early work to understand how the county council could be organised under the different unitary options, including initial work on finance and staffing. This is planning work only, based on current information and assumptions and no decisions have been made.

We will continue to work closely with colleagues across Lancashire and I will keep sharing updates as more information becomes available.

You can also find information on the Local Government Reorganisation section of the intranet or staff website www.lancashire.gov.uk/staff. If you have any questions, please contact the team at LGRQuestions@lancashire.gov.uk.

Take care,

Mark
