Corporate Parenting
When a child comes into care, they become 'looked after' and Lancashire County Council (LCC) becomes their corporate parent. Section 22(3) of the Children's Act 1989 sets out the general duty of the local authority looking after a child to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child. This duty has become known as 'Corporate Parenting'.
In simple terms, 'Corporate Parenting' means the collective responsibility of the Council, Elected Members, employees and partner agencies, in providing the best possible care and safeguarding for the children who are looked after by the council.
For further information on your duty as a Corporate Parent, please view the How Do I - Be a Corporate Parent (lancscc.net)
All councillors are invited to attend meetings of the Corporate Parenting Board and you can find agendas and minutes online.
