Winter in Lancashire

When the bad weather strikes this winter, our fleet of gritters and snow ploughs will be working hard to keep Lancashire's roads moving.

We grit the following areas:

Area North - Lancaster, Wyre, Fylde
Area East - Burnley, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Rossendale, Pendle
Area Central and South - Chorley, Preston, South Ribble, West Lancashire

You can view regular updates on the decisions to grit the county's roads and pavements below.

Selected priority routes in rural Lancaster District to be gritted this evening.

We have weather predictions of road temperatures falling below zero on some rural North Lancashire routes overnight with a risk of hoar frost. We will apply salt to these routes to deal with the risk. Please drive with care.

See our online gritting map for details of our priority routes.

Priority routes only cover a third of the highway network and ice can develop on treated surfaces caused by water run-off from fields or other sources due to recent heavy rainfall. Ice is most likely on untreated surfaces.
