2021 winners

The winners of the Staff Excellence Awards were announced at an awards ceremony held at the Crow Wood Hotel in Burnley. 

The winners in each category are:  

This recognises someone that has been in their role for two years or less but has made a huge impact over such a short time.

Winner: Laura Makeating - Principle Flood Risk Officer - Highways 

Runners up: 

Gregory Joynson - Accomodation Project Officer - Facilities Management
Laura Hudson - Operations Manager (Health) - Community North and Health and Prisons

For this award we looked for nominations for the 'unsung heroes' who have supported others to do their jobs well, making an outstanding contribution to the work of their teams or other people they support.  The winner for this award was chosen by Louise Taylor, Executive Director of Adult Services and Health & Wellbeing.

Winner: Lillemor Richardson - Contract Monitoring Officer, Quality Contracts and Safeguarding Adults

Janet Toth - Domestic Assistant, Hyndburn Disability Day Centre

Andrew Wayman - Social Care Support Officer, Community North and Health and Prisons

This award is designed to recognise colleagues whose outstanding contribution is directly recognised by the individuals or communities they support in their role. Our nominees all make a tangible difference to those they work with.

Winner: Louise Leeming - Family Support Worker, Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School

Janet  O'Brien - Volunteer, Lancashire Volunteer Partnership

Deborah Heaton - Social Worker, Emergency Duty Team

In this category we were celebrating exceptional members of staff who have worked for the county council for 20 years of more. They have worked hard throughout their careers and shown real passion for their work.

Winner: Carl Ellwood - Customer Service Advisor, Customer Access Service

Wendy Cooper - Senior Operations Manager, Older People's Care Services 

For this award we looked for nominations for the 'unsung heroes' who have supported others to do their jobs well, making an outstanding contribution to the work of their teams or other people they support.  The winner for this award was chosen by Stephen Young, Executive Director of Growth, Environment, Transport and community Services.

Winner: Joanne Shepherd - Security and Customer Service Officer, Public and Integrated Transport

Mark Spellman - Diver Attendant, Integrated Transport Services - Chorley & West Lancs

Shaista Hussain - Customer Service Adviser, Customer Access

This award recognises a collection of individuals who, through working together, have made a significant and positive impact. The award recognises a team where, individually and collectively, each colleague continually strives for excellence in service delivery and/or customer service.

Winner: Highways Surface Treatments Team, Highways

For this award we looked for nominations for the 'unsung heroes' who have supported others to do their jobs well, making an outstanding contribution to the work of their teams or other people they support.  The winner for this award was chosen by Edwina Grant OBE. 

Winner: Katherine Parr - Delivery Centre Support Worker, Early Help

Runners up:

Carol Almond - Cleaner, Ingol Community Primary School

Stephen Cookson - Delivery Centre Support Worker, Children, Family and Wellbeing Service

With this award we were looking for managers who motivated and inspired their team. Our finalists all demonstrated a forward thinking approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Winner: Aileen Smedley - Library Officer, Cultural Services

Carmel Croft - Registered Care Manager, Older People Care Services

Niamh O'Sullivan - Principal Planner, Planning and Environment

For this award we looked for nominations for the 'unsung heroes' who have supported others to do their jobs well, making an outstanding contribution to the work of their teams or other people they support.  The winner for this award was chosen by Angie Ridgwell, Chief Executive and Director of Resources.  

Winner: Sue Teague - Cleaning Operative, Facilities Management (Sue was represented on the night by Scott Varey)

Runners up: 

Peter Bull - System Support Officer, Data

James Powell - Learning and Development Officer, Skills, Learning and Development

Nominees for this award have gone the extra mile in their job to achieve something truly outstanding, or overcome adversity in their professional life to deliver excellent service. This category highlights our employees who are real ambassadors for the county council and a role model to their colleagues. The winner was chosen by a public vote.

Winner: Sandra Horan - Mobile Unit Manager, Facilities Management

 

Runners up: 

Michael Orchard - Programme Manager, Programme Office 

Jane Plomgren - Practice Development Worker, Skills Learning and Development

For this award we looked for someone who always tries to help, support, motivate and develop other people. They know when those around them need extra support – and offer it. They are on hand to offer ideas and suggestion when required. This person is a positive and steady presence and always there when needed. They make their colleagues’ lives easier and happier and exhibit a consistently positive nature.

Winner: Stephen Williams, Senior Public Rights of Way Officer, Planning and Environment

 

Runners up: 

Elaine Brogden - Customer Service Advisor, Customer Access Service 

Graham Bird  - Community Team Manager, Adult Social Care Community - Central
