Friday, April 16, 2021
Two Lancashire museums will be open for outdoor tours from next week.
You can book now for the guided tours for groups of up to six people at Lancaster Castle and Helmshore Mills Textile Museum from Monday 19 April.
Lancaster Castle will offer 30-minute tours every day of the week, starting at 10am, with the last tour beginning at 3.30pm. Your guided visit will allow you to explore the courtyards with one of our guides, during which time you can ask questions and hear some of the castle's fascinating 1,000-year history.
Helmshore Mills Textile Museum will offer tours of around one hour on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. These will start from 12.15, with the last tour at 2.15pm. You will find out fun facts about the history and heritage of Helmshore, the role played by the Turner family and the mills they built, as well as stories of the people who lived and worked there.
Julie Bell, head of cultural services, said: "According to the government's timetable for relaxing of coronavirus restrictions, museums are unable to open for indoor visits until 17 May at the earliest.
"In the meantime, we're very pleased to be able to offer outdoor tours at Lancaster Castle and Helmshore Mills Textile Museum.
"Led by our experienced guides, these tours for small groups will be really interesting and give people a great insight into these historical sites and the part they played in shaping the Lancashire we know today."
