County council Covid-19 recruitment campaign launched

Lancashire County Council has launched a recruitment drive to take on more than 100 extra care workers to support older people and adults with disabilities today (Wednesday 4 November).



The campaign aims to find people to provide care support throughout the covid-19 pandemic over the winter. It is aimed at people who may or may not have experience in the care sector.

A number of temporary paid roles are available including positions supporting older people at care homes, day centres or in their own home, and adults with disabilities in day services, short break services or supported living schemes. Roles for catering and cleaning staff will also be advertised.

Full training will be provided along with guidance and support from more experienced managers. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be provided.

The jobs could lead to a permanent position with the county council or a care provider.

County Councillor Graham Gooch, cabinet member for adult services, said: "We need to recruit more people to care positions to ensure we can continue to provide much-needed support to elderly or disabled people throughout the pandemic.

"We're expecting extra pressures on the care system over the winter months and people we recruit will play a vital part in making a difference to those they support during this period.

"You don't need to have experience in care for these roles. If you are caring, responsible, and good with people, please contact the county council.

"This is a great opportunity for people who are currently unemployed to get paid work that could lead to a permanent position with the county council or its partners."
