Lancashire County Council is recruiting more adult social care professionals to specialised roles as part of its plans to deal with winter pressures and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Social workers, social care support officers, business support officers and occupational therapists are amongst the jobs being advertised on the county council's website.

The recruitment campaign aims to employ more than 50 extra staff who will help to ensure people have the support they need to live independently in their home for longer.

These professionals will help to improve people's quality of life. Their support will mean people are less likely to go into hospital.

The staff will also work closely with the NHS to avoid delays for people being discharged from hospital into social care.

County Councillor Graham Gooch, cabinet member for adult services, said: "Our health and social care system is always under extra pressure during the winter. However, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic means there are likely to be more hospital admissions than usual from now and on into the spring.

"These new jobs will help people who need care to live at home independently and ensure they are less likely to need to go to hospital.

"Living independently and safely at home is much better for people's mental and physical health and wellbeing. These professionals will provide reablement and other support so that more people can do this.

"They will also ensure hospital patients have the right support when they get home, reducing delays in people being transferred from hospital into social care.

"This recruitment campaign is a key part of our plans to support the NHS and ensure care is provided to adults who need it most throughout the Covid-19 pandemic."

These jobs will be offered as one year fixed-term contracts. However, they could lead to a permanent role with the county council.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided for people who are employed in these roles.
