New buses will maintain transport links in Rossendale
Monday, December 02, 2019
Lancashire County Council will introduce new bus services to maintain public transport links across Rossendale following the withdrawal of some commercial services.
Services 7 and 8 currently provide public transport links to a wide area of Rossendale with services between Rawtenstall and Bacup to Burnley or Todmorden. Transdev Rosso had announced that it would withdraw the majority of the timetable for these services from 6 January 2020 as they are not commercially viable.
From 6 January 2020 Lancashire County Council, in partnership with Transdev Rosso, will introduce new Service 8, merging parts of existing Services 7 and 8 to maintain a service between Burnley and Bacup, and Bacup and Todmorden.
The Monday to Saturday daytime service will continue to operate generally every two hours between Burnley, Bacup and Todmorden via Towneley, Weir, Bacup Pennine Road and Sharneyford. There will be an extended morning and afternoon school-day only journey to maintain services from Burnley, Weir and Bacup to The Valley Leadership Academy at Stacksteads.
Additionally, also operating as extended Service 8 journeys, Transdev Rosso will continue to provide their current commercial service agreements with Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS), Todmorden High School and Burnley College for dedicated student bus services from the Rawtenstall, Bacup and Todmorden areas. Whilst operating on school/college days only mainly for BRGS, Todmorden High School and Burnley College students, these commercial journeys will form part of the overall service provision.
This will mean that almost all existing students travelling on the previous Service 7 and 8 journeys will be able to access transport to their schools and colleges.
A new Service 10 will operate generally every hour during Monday to Saturday daytime between Rawtenstall and Edgeside via Staghills, Newchurch and Waterfoot, partially replacing the withdrawn Service 7 and 8 to maintain the bus service link on this section of the route.
There will also be some minor changes to the timetables of local Services 11, 12 and 13 operated by Lancashire County Council to help passengers make connections with the new routes. These services will also be operated by Transdev Rosso from 6 January 2020.
New timetable leaflets will be available as soon as possible.
