Tuesday, November 05, 2019

A new Lancashire County Council book and exhibition to support the recent National Care Leavers' Week has been launched.

The exhibition is now running at The Harris in Preston until Wednesday 6 November, before moving on to venues in Fleetwood, Lancaster, Skelmersdale and Rawtenstall.

The 'Happy Being Me' exhibition features artwork by children and young people who have been or are currently looked after by the council.

This artwork describe the activities and events that make them happy and have a positive influence on their mental health.

The Sincerely You book contains around 50 letters which were written by children and young people in 2017.

Each letter, written to themselves, captures their thoughts and feelings about being in care and looked after by the county council.

The individual experiences shared in the book and the letters will be used as part of the training of people working with children including foster carers and social workers.

People can visit the exhibition at:

• The Harris until Wednesday 6 November
• Fleetwood Library from 8 - 13 November
• Lancaster Library from 15 - 20 November
• The E Room, Skelmersdale from 22 - 27 November
• The Whittaker, Rawtenstall, from 29 November to 4 December

National Care Leavers' Week, which ran until Sunday 3 November, highlighted the needs of care leavers and encouraged all organisations responsible for looking after them to work effectively together.

You can find out more information about the exhibition by emailing either jane.hylton@lancashire.gov.uk or roxanne.mcallister@lancashire.gov.uk in the county council's leaving care service.
