Free blood pressure testing for Know Your Numbers week
Wednesday, September 11, 2019
People across Lancashire are being encouraged to get a free blood pressure test from their local pharmacy or leisure centre this week as part of a national campaign.
Know Your Numbers Week is run by Blood Pressure UK and supported locally by Lancashire County Council, health and leisure organisations, football clubs and other partners.
The campaign runs until Sunday 15 September.
As part of a two year project funded by the British Heart Foundation, people can now get a free test at a variety of venues.
They can find out where they can get a test by visiting the Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Website.
Once people find out their blood pressure numbers, they can also get information from the website about how to reach or maintain a healthy blood pressure.
County Councillor Shaun Turner, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "Know Your Numbers Week is the perfect opportunity to get a free blood pressure check.
"It's easy for them to get a test by popping into their local pharmacy or speaking to staff at their local leisure centre if they're a member.
"There's no need to book an appointment with your doctor or visit hospital.
"High blood pressure is a major cause of strokes and heart disease so it's important that you know 'your' numbers.
"You can find out more on the Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria website, which gives information about venues where you can get a test and advice so you can make some simple changes to your lifestyle to help reduce the risk of a stroke or heart disease.
"If you've not had your blood pressure checked in the last two years, I'd encourage you to go and get a test this week."
