A new chapter for Lytham Library
Thursday, August 15, 2019
Lytham Library was reopened earlier today (Thursday 15 August) by County Councillor Tim Ashton, who represents the local area.
The library is located in Lytham Assembly Rooms, on Dicconson Terrace.
This marks another milestone in Lancashire County Council's flagship programme to reopen libraries, which closed in 2016.
County Councillor Ashton, said: "We're very glad to have got our library back and I'm delighted to have been given the honour of reopening it.
"The library has been missed and I couldn't be more pleased that we've delivered on our commitment to reopen it.
"Libraries are a really important service for local communities and it is wonderful to see that so many have now reopened across the county.
"They allow everyone, whatever their circumstances, the opportunity to access books and information on their doorstep.
"They are also places where people can meet, and all ages can interact and share interests, which means they also play a vital role in helping people to maintain their health and wellbeing."
Following the closure of 26 of the county's 73 libraries by the council over two years ago, a new administration was elected in May 2017, and decided to re-open as many libraries as possible.
A lease has been signed by Lancashire County Council to run the library at the town's Assembly Rooms. The Assembly Rooms are let on a long lease to Lytham Town Trust.
Lytham is the 17th library to be reopened by the council, with a further four reopened as independent community libraries.
The opening times for Lytham Library are:

Tuesday - Closed
Wednesday - 9am to 7pm
