Temporary change to Ormskirk town bus to help Aughton passengers

Friday, February 01, 2019

Lancashire County Council is stepping in to make sure part of Aughton still has access to public transport while its usual bus route is diverted due to roadworks.

From Monday 4 February the council's Ormskirk Town Service 5 will be temporarily rerouted to also serve the Aughton/Holt Green area.

This area is usually served by Service 310 operated by Arriva, but this service is currently not taking its normal route through Aughton due to major gas replacement works being carried out along the A59.

County Councillor Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "We're aware that people in part of Aughton have been affected by their normal bus service being diverted due to the gas replacement work taking place on the A59.

"This is a commercial bus service over which the county council has no control, however we are temporarily diverting our Ormskirk Town Service 5 to serve the area that currently has no bus service.

"Our Service 5 doesn't operate as frequently or provide a direct link to Liverpool, but this will ensure that people who rely on public transport can still access local services."

The roadworks are scheduled to continue until the end of April, however it is expected that access to Winifred Lane will be restored in the first week in March, allowing normal services to resume.

Passenger Information Notices have been displayed at affected bus stops on Springfield Road, Smithy Lane and Bold Lane. See the temporarily revised timetable.
