St Anne's Mobile Library has had to close temporarily due to technical issues.
The mobile library, based on Clifton Drive near the district council offices, had to be sent for repair on Friday 21 December 2018 due to a health and safety problem with the door opening mechanism.
This work should be completed soon and the library vehicle should be in use again early in the New Year.
People are being advised to use the nearby Ansdell Library until the mobile library is back in place.
County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "We're very sorry for any inconvenience this is causing, but we've had to send the mobile library for repair straight away as the faulty door is causing a health and safety issue.
"The repair work is scheduled to be carried out next week and we're hoping the vehicle will be in place again very early in January 2019 for when visitor numbers begin to increase again following the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"In the meantime, people can use Ansdell Library, which is only a short journey away."
The Mobile Library has been based at 288 Clifton Drive South, St Anne's, close to the district council offices since March this year.
This is a temporary service people can use while major repair work to St Anne's Library is being carried out.
Ansdell Library, along with other county council libraries, will be closed on Monday 31 December 2018 and Tuesday 1 January 2019 for the New Year Bank Holiday break. It is usually open Monday to Saturday.
