Clinical trials

Our Director of Public Health Dr Sakthi Karunanithi is strongly encouraging people across Lancashire to join a nationwide clinical trial.  The trial could help find a breakthrough for those experiencing coronavirus (COVID 19) symptoms.

Research and development of new treatment options are important ways to mitigate the impacts of COVID19 and support our residents during this pandemic.

This is especially important for those likely to develop severe disease or complications, such as those living with underlying health conditions or from black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.

PRINCINPLE is one of the three major national clinical trials aiming to find a breakthrough for those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms:

  • which started within the last 14 days, and
  • who are aged over 65; or over 50 with an underlying health condition

This clinical trial is looking for medicines that can help people with COVID-19 symptoms get better quickly and stop them needing to go to hospital.

As Lancashire is an area with very high level alert for COVID19, we need people with COVID symptoms across Lancashire to join this nation-wide study.

The PRINCIPLE Trial is entirely remote. You can participate from the comfort of your own home from anywhere in the UK with no face-to-face visits required. The trial team and your own GP will be available for you to contact throughout.
