Marriage/Civil Partnership Notice Appointments

You can only currently give notice twelve months prior to the date that your marriage or civil partnership ceremony is due to take place.

Please note if you are getting married/forming a Civil Partnership in Lancashire (not including Blackpool or Blackburn with Darwen) you are required to book your ceremony with the relevant ceremonies officer or minister of religion before you give Notice of Marriage/Civil Partnership.

If you are getting married/forming a Civil Partnership in a district outside of Lancashire the policy may be different so you must check with the district where you wish to be married/form a Civil Partnership that the ceremony can proceed before you give Notice of Marriage/ Civil Partnership.

From 1 July 2021 register offices in England and Wales will become a specified office, this means that where one or both parties is subject to immigration control, notice of marriage and civil partnership will need to be given at a district where either one or both parties reside and the parties must attend together.

There is a statutory fee of £35 per person to give notice of Marriage/Civil Partnership.

If you selected 'both of us' in answer to the previous question 'Do you live in Lancashire...'you will require a double appointment [1 hour approximately] for you both to give notice together. If you selected 'one of us' you will require a single appointment [30 minutes approximately] for one of you to give notice. If you are unable to both attend a double appointment you will need to book two separate single appointments and make an individual booking for each appointment.

Both people should attend the appointment together as a double appointment to allow immigration checks to be carried out.
