European Passport Return Service (EPRS)

The European Passport Return Service is available for European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals applying online using the EEA(QP) or EEA(PR) application forms to obtain permanent residency in the UK.

As a participating Local Authority we can photocopy EEA or Swiss passports and forward a copy along with the checklist, application and supporting documents to the Home Office. Your passport will then be available for use while your application is being processed.

The fee for this service is £10 per applicant plus postage (dependent on weight).

The service is available on Thursdays 9.30am – 11.30pm at Certificate Services, The Archives Office, Bow Lane, Preston PR1 2RE. Waiting times may vary depending on the demand for this service.

What you need to bring

You must attend the appointment in person (if over the age of 15 years and 6 months) and:

  • Bring the completed checklist and have your Payment Notification Number (PNN) reference.
  • Bring original passports and 2 passport photographs.
  • Bring the original supporting documents as stated on the checklist.
  • Bring a copy of your application.
  • Cash for postage of your documents to the Home Office. Please note the minimum cost for postage is £10 and depending on the number of documents included could exceed £30.

We will:

  • Copy and certify the passports of EEA or Swiss nationals so that you can use your passports as normal during the application process.
  • Securely deliver the certified copies, application, supporting documents and checklist list to the Home Office.

Using the European passport return service does not guarantee the success of the application and the Local Authority cannot provide any advice. This service will not ensure that the form has been completed correctly or that the correct supporting documents are submitted. Applications must be complete and ready to send at the time of appointment. We are unable to photocopy and certify ID cards.
