Apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships and training

If you are over 16 years old and are not in full-time education, you can apply for an apprenticeship or a pre-apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are offered in more than 170 industry sectors, such as engineering, youth work and hospitality, and all attract at least the minimum wage. 85% of apprentices stay in employment after completing their qualification. Apprenticeship qualifications can lead on to higher level qualifications, including access to degree level courses.

Apprenticeships are listed in the county council's job search.

If there are no jobs which you are interested in, then complete our expression of interest form and our Employment and Support Team will help you to find a work opportunity or apprenticeship in a field that you are interested, in either the public or private sector.

Traineeships and pre-apprenticeships

If you are not ready for an apprenticeship but feel that this could be the right route for you, you could complete a pre-apprenticeship/traineeship. This will help you gain the skills and experience to progress into work and an apprenticeship.

Traineeships include work preparation training, English and maths for those who need it, and a high quality work experience placement.
