All priority routes in C&S Lancs were gritted this morning and ploughed where needed.

We had unexpectedly heavy falls of snow tearly this morning from dawn onwards, and temperatures reached minus 1.6 deg C at times. These conditions continued until around 11am in some parts of our area. We applied salt to all priority routes through the morning peak travel periods and ploughed to remove any accumulations of snow from these roads. We also arranged snow clearance & gritting of footways in high footfall areas. Temperatures are now rising, however there is a risk of icy roads tonight so plesae stay informed and careful.

See our online gritting map for details of our priority routes.

Priority routes only cover a third of the highway network and ice patches can develop on treated surfaces caused by water run-off from fields or other sources. Ice is most likely on untreated surfaces.
