How to become a volunteer

Volunteers are selected based on our Person Specification.

Volunteer Services – Person Specification

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Understanding of and a commitment to empowering and supporting others
  • Understanding of and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate empathy towards users of our service
  • Understanding of and the ability to support the users of our service in a non-judgemental manner
  • Understanding of the ability to work within personal and professional boundaries
  • Willingness to work within the project guidelines and to receive support and supervision from Volunteer Service Officers.
  • Ability to offer a regular commitment
  • Understanding and commitment to Equal Opportunities (No person shall receive less favourable treatment because of his or her sex, martial status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origins etc.)
  • Criminal Record – having a criminal record will not necessarily exclude you from this role as each case will be considered on an individual basis looking at the nature, date and circumstances surrounding the offence/s. Information about offences should be recorded on the application form and you will be asked to discuss your record openly with a Volunteer Service officer – please note that this information would remain confidential to Social Services. (A Criminal Records Bureau check will be carried out).
