Adoption of Children and Young People
Main Details
Why are children placed for Adoption?
- The majority of children placed for Adoption will have been removed from their birth parents through the court system as a result of maltreatment, risk or harm. As a result, all these children will have had their plan for adoption approved by the court
- Children come to adoption with their own identity, background and family history that will impact on their adoptive home. Factors that require understanding and acceptance to increase the possibility of a successful placement
The role of Lancashire County Council Adoption Service
- Our role as a local authority is to secure the best possible future for children that we place. Adoption is about meeting the needs of children - not meeting the needs of adults who wish to adopt
- We offer free and confidential advice and support so that we can secure the best possible future for all the children we place
- More information about what we do and how we can help prospective adopters is available at our website. Including the adoption process and post-adoption support
