Improvements to local bus services

 


Bus service changes from February and March 2018

Following on from Lancashire County Council's Cabinet decision to commit additional funding to review the tendered local bus service network across Lancashire, the first phase of the service enhancements were implemented in December 2017.  Further service enhancements are to be implemented during January, February and March 2018 as detailed below:-

Lancaster services

Service 582  Lancaster – Lune Valley – Kirkby Lonsdale
From 5 March 2018, Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire Ltd, in partnership with Lancashire County Council, will introduce this new service to restore a daytime local bus link for the villages of Gressingham, Arkholme & Whittington.
The new regular two-hourly bus service during Monday to Saturday daytime will operate between Lancaster and Kirby Lonsdale via Caton, Brookhouse, Hornby, Gressingham, Arkholme & Whittington.
The new Service 582 will also connect with Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire's wider North Yorkshire Craven Connection network Services 580 & 581 offering through links to Ingleton, Settle and Skipton.

Ribble Valley, Burnley and Pendle services

Service 2 - Clitheroe – Henthorn/Low Moor Circular
From 19 February 2018, the 1605 journey will be revised to depart at 1600 and operate 5 minutes earlier throughout.

Service 3- Clitheroe – Pimlico – Chatburn – Sawley
From 19 February 2018, the route and timetable will be revised to operate in an anti-clockwise direction from Chatburn around Sawley.

Service 9 - Nelson – Brierfield Circular

From 12 February 2018, this service will be withdrawn and replaced by new service 95A.

Service 14 - Burnley – Clifton Farm Circular

From 12 February 2018 the timetable will be revised, enhancing the service to include additional peak time journeys.
Holmeswood Coaches will operate this service on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

Service 15  Burnley – Healey Wood – Rose Hill

From 12 February 2018, the route and timetable will be revised, introducing new Service 15A to serve Burnley Wood as well as improve the service for the Moorland Road area of Rose Hill.
The general frequency for Moorland Road will be increased from hourly to half-hourly, with Burnley Wood/Glen View Road and Healey Wood/Rosehill Road will be each served hourly.
Harris Travel will operate this service on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

Service 25 - Clitheroe – Whalley – Brockhall – Mellor – Blackburn
From 19 February 2018, the timetable will be revised to include short journeys between Blackburn and Mellor partially replacing the withdrawn Service 25A. The timetable will operate Monday to Saturday daytime, every hour between Blackburn and Mellor and will continue every two hours to Brockhall and Clitheroe.

From 19 February 2018, this service will be withdrawn and incorporated within the revised Service 25.

Service 35 - Longridge – Ribchester – Wilpshire – Blackburn
From 19 February 2018, the timetable will be revised with minor timing adjustments.
Working with Rotala Preston Bus, these amendments to the services will be introduced to improve overall service reliability.

Service 95 - Colne – Nelson – Burnley (Pendle Green Line)

From 12 February 2018, the route and timetable will be revised, introducing new Service 95A to combine with Service 95 to improve services between Colne, Nelson & Burnley General Hospital, with the general frequency increased from hourly to half-hourly. The service through Brierfield, including Halifax Road, and Alkincoats will be restored with improved hourly frequencies, replacing the current Service 9 Nelson – Brierfield Circular.
Holmeswood Coaches will operate this service on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

West Lancashire services

Service 315  Ormskirk – Haskayne – Halsall – Shirdley Hill – Southport

From 12 February 2018, Lancashire County Council will introduce this new service to restore a daytime local bus link between Ormskirk, Haskayne, Halsall, Shirdley Hill & Southport.
The new regular two-hourly bus service will operate Monday to Friday daytime.
Holmeswood Coaches will operate this service on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

Rossendale services

Service 465/466  Rawtenstall – Bacup – Todmorden

From 29 January 2018, Rosso, in in partnership with Lancashire County Council, will introduce this new service to restore a daytime local bus link across the Rossendale Valley between Rawtenstall and Todmorden.
Linked with Rosso's commercial schoolday Service 465 journeys on the route, the new regular 90 minute bus service during Monday to Saturday daytime will operate between Rawtenstall and Todmorden via Waterfoot, New Line, Bacup and Sharneyford.

Service 1 - Lancaster Caton Road Park & Ride

Service 51 - Carnforth – Silverdale

The timetable will be revised to maintain links with train times, also providing a later return journey through to Carnforth.  Journeys will continue to operate generally hourly within Silverdale and 2 hourly through to Carnforth.

Service 89 - Lancaster – Glasson Dock – Pilling – Knott End

The route and timetable will be revised to improve overall reliability, with all journeys serving Royal Lancaster Infirmary main entrance as standard.  Journeys will continue to operate every 90 minutes.
Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire Ltd will operate the service on our behalf.

Lancaster – Lune Valley – Kirkby Lonsdale
Lancashire County Council is continuing to work with bus operators to develop a sustainable option to restore a daytime service link for Gressingham, Arkholme & Whittington and the Lune Valley as a whole.

Preston, Fylde & Wyre services

Service 74  - Poulton – Blackpool
This service will be withdrawn and replaced by new Services 76 & 77.

Service 75 - Preston – Kirkham – Poulton – Cleveleys – Fleetwood

The route and timetable will be revised between Thornton and Fleetwood to additionally serve Cleveleys and Pheasants Wood.
The new hourly frequency will better link Fleetwood and Thornton-Cleveleys with Kirkham and Preston providing greater opportunities for people to use public transport throughout the route.

Service 76 - Lytham – Kirkham – Great Eccleston – Poulton – Blackpool
Service 77 - Preston – Inskip – Great Eccleston – Poulton – Blackpool

These new Fylde Villager bus Services 76/77/77A will restore rural village links and improve frequencies, across Fylde, Wyre and Preston. This will replace the existing Service 80 Preston – Myerscough. A number of benefits include:

  • Improved service for Wrea Green, restoring the direct link to Lytham and Victoria Hospital;
  • Improved frequency between Great Eccleston, Elswick, Inskip and Preston whilst restoring a service for Fulwood Hoyles Lane and Cadley Mill Lane;
  • Improved frequency linking through Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Service 80 - Preston – Inskip – Great Eccleston – Myerscough
This service will be withdrawn and incorporated within new Services 77 & 77A. 

Preston, South Ribble, Chorley & West Lancashire services

Service 1 - Preston – Walton-le-Dale Park & Ride

There will be no changes and Rotala Preston Bus will operate this service on our behalf.  Longer opening times to help with the shopping in the run up to Christmas will be provided – see separate advert.

Service 5/6 - Ormskirk Town Services

Service 13 - Preston – Penwortham
This service will be withdrawn and replaced by new Service 114.

Service 24A - Chorley - Wheelton - Brinscall - Abbey Village - (Blackburn)

There are no changes to this service provided in partnership with Chorley Borough Council.
General frequency retained at 90 minutes for Monday to Saturday evening and hourly for Sunday daytime.
Stagecoach in Merseyside & South Lancashire will operate this service on our behalf.

Service 29 - Preston – Frenchwood Circular

The new Service 29 will maintain the hourly link between Preston and Frenchwood, to allow improvements to Service 112.

Service 109B - Chorley – Astley Village – Chorley Hospital

This service will be renumbered from 109A, however there are no changes to the route and timetable, provided in partnership with Chorley Borough Council.
General frequency retained at 90 minutes for Monday to Saturday evening and hourly for Sunday daytime.
Stagecoach in Merseyside & South Lancashire will operate this service on our behalf.

Service 112 - Preston – Bamber Bridge – Clayton Brook – Leyland

The route and timetable will be revised extending the service through to Leyland via Walton Summit, Clayton Brook and Runshaw College, offering better links for Bamber Bridge and the wider community.
To allow for the extension to Leyland, it will no longer serve Sainsburys, however alternative supermarkets are served on the route.  Frenchwood will be served by new Service 29.
The service will operate generally every hour, and when combined with Service 114, provides improved services up to every 30 minutes between Clayton Brook and Leyland.
Rotala Preston Bus will operate this service on our behalf

Service 114 - Preston – Penwortham – Leyland – Clayton Brook – Chorley

The route and timetable will be revised extending the service through to Preston from Leyland via Moss Side, Midge Hall, Farington Moss (Croston Road), Whitestake and Penwortham (to reinstate previously withdrawn commercial Service 115 and incorporate Service 13, which served Penwortham Manor Lane to Preston).
This will restore public transport across a wide area of South Ribble linking to Preston and Chorley, including Chorley Hospital and the Industrial Estate at Moss Side to help people access health services and get to work. This will replace the existing Service 13 Preston – Penwortham.
The service will operate generally every hour, and when combined with Service 112, provides improved services up to every 30 minutes between Clayton Brook and Leyland.

Service 312 - Skelmersdale – Appley Bridge - Wrightington
Service 313 - Skelmersdale – Birch Green – Ashurst – Parbold – Burscough
Current timetable: Service 312 / Service 313
There will be no changes and Rotala Preston Bus will operate these services on our behalf.

Service 337 - Chorley – Eccleston – Croston – Burscough – Ormskirk
Service 347 - Chorley – Eccleston – Croston – Rufford – Southport

The route and timetable of Service 347 will be revised and Service 337 introduced to restore rural village links and improve frequencies across Chorley and West Lancashire to Southport and Ormskirk. A number of benefits include:

  • Improved service for Croston and Eccleston, restoring the direct link to Chorley;
  • Improved frequency between Mawdesley, Croston, Eccleston and Chorley;
  • Service 337 will additionally serve Burscough Industrial Estate, providing public transport access to this employment area.

Ormskirk – Western Parishes – Southport
LCC is continuing to work with bus operators to develop a sustainable option to restore a daytime service link between Ormskirk, Haskayne, Halsall, Shirdley Hill & Southport.

Ribble Valley, Burnley & Pendle services

Services 7/7A - Clitheroe – Chatburn – Barley – Blacko – Nelson
This service will be withdrawn and replaced by new Services 3, 66 & 67.

Service 8 - Nelson – Lomeshaye – Carr Hall 
This service will be withdrawn and replaced by new Service 66.

Services 15/15A - Brockhall/Mellor Brook – Mellor – Blackburn
These services will be withdrawn and replaced by new Services 25 & 25A.

Service 64 - Clitheroe – Sabden – Padiham – Rosegrove – Burnley
Service 65 - Nelson – Fence – Padiham – Rosegrove – Burnley
Service 66 - Nelson – Fence – Barley – Chatburn – Clitheroe
Service 67 - Nelson – Blacko – Barley – Chatburn – Clitheroe

This new network of Pendleside Link bus Services 64/65/66/67 will restore rural village links and improve frequencies across the Ribble Valley, Burnley and Pendle. They will replace the existing Services 7/7A, which serves villages between Clitheroe and Nelson, and Service 8 Nelson – Carr Hall circular. A number of benefits include:

  • Improved service for Sabden, restoring the direct link to Burnley;
  • Improved frequency between Clitheroe, Barley and Nelson, whilst restoring services for Newchurch and Spenbrook;
  • Improved frequency between Fence and Nelson;
  • New route serving Burnley Sycamore Avenue linking through to the Health Centre at Rosegrove;

Boomerang Travel Ltd will operate this new Pendleside Links network of services on our behalf

Earby - Skipton
LCC is continuing to work with bus operators and stakeholders to explore options for a service following requests to restore a direct link between Earby and Skipton.

Rossendale services

Service 11 - Rawtenstall – Helmshore Circular
