Active Carbon Filters Ltd. develops, manufactures and supplies activated carbon products for the filtration of air/gas and liquids. A broad selection of formats is readily available, including carbon-impregnated, non-woven pleatable media, loose granules and bonded biscuits. The use of a bonding system in air filtration applications immobilises the active carbon, resulting in a technically superior product by preventing air bypass. Applications for Active Carbon Filters may be divided into two phases, vapour and liquid. In the industrial sector activated carbon filters are used to remove flux fumes that arise from soldering operations, pollutants generated in weld-fume cabinets, and UV generated ozone arising from printing processes. Mercury fumes, sulphur dioxide (a major cause of acid rain) and nitrogen oxide (a major cause of air pollution) can all be effectively removed if the air is allowed to pass through activated carbon filters. Widespread use of activated carbon filters in heating, ventilation and air conditioning ensures that the influx of external gaseous pollutants, or expulsion of potentially dangerous gases, is minimised. The importance of activated carbon in liquid phase applications is growing as industry seeks effective but inexpensive solutions to enable it to comply with environmental legislation which demands cleaner discharges from factories. Activated carbon is now used in a broad range of liquid phase applications, from purifying water to effluent treatment. Its ability to remove hydrocarbons, surfactants and colour from effluent streams makes the water suitable for discharge or, in some cases, for re-use.

Solvent Resource Management Limited (SRM), a member of the international Heidelberg Cement Group, offers recycling and disposal of waste solvents and fuel blending from organic wastes. SRM can arrange safe transport of hazardous materials from any industrial site in the United Kingdom. The collection of waste solvent and delivery of reclaimed products is carried out using purpose designed vehicles, including vacuum tankers and special 'hybrid' vehicles which can carry bulk distillate and drums simultaneously. SRM are registered carriers for the transport of waste products and adhere to all EPA legislation. The company offers single stream fractionation, whereby purpose-built fractionation plants produce refined products of the highest quality, for example acetone, industrial methylated spirits, xylene and toluene, from waste material emanating from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. High quality recovered solvents are available for sale. These solvents are recovered to a tightly controlled specification from a variety of industrial wastes. SRM also provide a recycling operation for non-recoverable organic materials through their CEMFUEL® process. This entails the production of a fuel to a very high specification which is then use by the cement/lime kilns as a substitute for natural products, thereby conserving natural resources.
