Health and Wellbeing is one of seven themes contained in the Lancashire Local Area Agreement. Central Government has set 198 priority measures for local government over the next few years, and selected indicators have been identified as priority areas under the Health and Wellbeing Theme for the Local Area Agreement.

Note Standardised Mortality Ratios (SMRs) compare the actual number of deaths in a particular area with the expected number of deaths based on mortality rates of a reference population (in this case, the United Kingdom). SMRs enable comparison of mortality information across a range of areas and make allowance for the differing age structures of the population in different areas. If local mortality rates are high compared with the reference area, the number of deaths observed will be greater than the expected number and the index will be greater than 100; and vice-versa.
