Funding available for community projects

Monday, December 12, 2016

Lancashire County Council is encouraging more groups from the voluntary, community and faith sector to apply for a grant to support their work.

There's still more than £27,000 in total available from the county council's Local Initiative Fund (LIF) to help community activities in Chorley, Hyndburn and Pendle.

The LIF opened for applications earlier this year, with more than £154,000 available across the 12 Lancashire districts. The first round led to £116,000 given out for projects.

Now in its sixth year, the LIF scheme provides medium-sized grants to voluntary, community and faith sector groups that carry out important work to help communities across Lancashire.

Applications should be for a minimum of £1,000 and a maximum of £5,000. The deadline is 5pm on Friday 6 January, decisions will be announced in February.

County Councillor Jennifer Mein, leader of the county council, said: "We’re calling on groups and organisations in Chorley, Hyndburn and Pendle, to apply for funding to benefit local projects.

"This funding has previously supported a wide variety of different activities and projects in communities right across Lancashire. This includes workshops for young people, sports activities, advice to help people into work, health and wellbeing support, and various other projects.

"We know that this funding has already made a big difference to lots of communities. I'd encourage any local organisations to come forward and apply."

Groups and organisations in Lancashire from the voluntary, community and faith sector can apply for grants from £1,000 to £5,000, if their project supports one of the scheme's three priorities:
• Helping families
• Skills and employment
• Activities and programmes for young people aged 12–19 (up to 25 for young people with learning difficulties or disabilities).
